Residents of Cook, Tower-Soudan, and Orr got the answer we expected Thursday night when the board rejected 5-2 a motion by Orr representative Zelda Bruns to hold off on construction plans for the three schools in the north.
Plenty of people spoke eloquently about the impact of this plan on our communities, but the five board members obviously don't care. Johnson Controls never considered the economic impact of their ill-conceived plan on our communities. They were too focused on the impact ($12-$14 million worth) to their own bottom line.
Now, people in our communities have a choice to make, and that will have to be the focus of discussion at next Wednesday's meeting in Cook. We can either lie down and die, or stand up and fight this in the only venue where we can have equal standing- in court. At this point, those are the only choices we have. Think about it and come to the meeting on Wednesday some gumption in your back pocket. Meeting starts at 6:00, with a rally beforehand. See you there.
I say we go to Cook, and really let them have it. We need to dissolve ourselves from 2142, and become our district. I understand that that takes time, but we need to move on it before they start tearing down our building. Our school is important, as well as our communities. Let them go own there own as they will never make it. 2142, just lost, and have lost a district, as they will not make it without the 3 cities, and Nett Lake and Boise Forte as well.
I say, WE SUE 2142.
File something with the courts such as a "cease and desist" and form your own district ASAP. Allow non-union teacher's aides to have larger class sizes (1st and 2nd grades together for example) The status quo obviously cannot continue. With flexibility from the teacher's union things can happen.

Thank you for that information. I hope things are as easy as you make them sound. Will you come to Cook on Wednesday nightand picket with us. The more people we have the better off we are. We don't care what the school board says anymore as we are taking further action. i believe that we need to get out of 2142 and form our own district. I believe that financially we can make it, otherwise we are going to keep sinking, and in 2 years when Babbitt falls, I wouyls rather not be a part of that. If you have more advice, please throw it this way. Thanks again.
Just out of curiosity....what grounds do you fell you have for litigation? Losing an election?
The grounds that we have for litigation is, all the false and misleading information that 2142 lead the public just to get the yes vote. And as well as Johnson control. They have done wrong numbers in their demographics that pertained to our school. Have you kept up on all the information that was provided to the public, before the Dec. 8th vote? There were numbers that the board and Johnson controls had put in the information that was not even accurate.
yeah, because the district and johnson controls had a crystal ball to see into the future and see exactly what the numbers were. yes, things changed. but the minute that gas prices go back up (and im sure they will) things will change drastically, with even less time to make sensible decisions.
im going to post this again;
SCHOOLS AND SCHOOL DISTRICTS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DECLINE, OR GROWTH OF ANY TOWN OR CITY ECONOMY!!!!!!
your claim that the towns will die if a school isnt within city limits implies that schools have an effect on the economy and success of a town. IF THAT IS SO you should be working darn hard to kick the schools OUT of town because our towns have been dying for decades WITH a school in them. explain that why dont you?
it is, in fact, the other way around; the schools are suffering because the towns are dying. towns are dying, less jobs, people move out, less population, less kids, less students in a seat, less money, END OF STORY.
if a company sells less product, it closes down factories, as such was the case with potlach and ainsworth and the like. people didnt build, or buy product, they had to shut down plants. its just sensible. its the way it works.
and i shouldnt have to but i will mention it again
THIS IS A DEMOCRACY. the majority in any given group rules, REGARDLESS. how on earth did bush get into office (wasnt that the election that was close)? because the majority rules - dispite what individual states decided was their majority vote, as a whole, the country elected bush.
we dont see states claiming they should be removed from the united states because their majority was for another president.
its the same thing. we as towns shouldnt be out of the district just because our area thinks differently. democracy people. democracy.
use your open enrollment options and leave us alone. ;P you are going to save money sending your kids to another school because they all have higher school taxes then us, and they are going up too.
