In 1970 one out of 50 Americans received foodstamps. Today it is one out of 6. I qualified for food stamps a few times in my 55+ years. Never applied, got a second job for a while instead. The spending cuts need to be across the board, not just the scare tactics of "gutting" social security and Medicare. Perhaps those getting unearned entitlements could be forced to get a ged? Perhaps no more money to an uneducated, unmarried, unemployed single mom when she makes another mistake and brings another innocent fatherless child into a life of poverty? How about public service for those on unemployment for 6+ months? Sloth has become quite attractive to far too many of our citizens, that may "forget" how to be productive.
