orrcountry,

I would suggest a nice walk in the woods, watch a funny movie, turn off Fox News, you seem a bit tense and agitated.

The Sandy Hook students resume classes in an previously unused school 7 miles away in Monroe, newly refurbished with a security/surveillance system and patrolled by officers of the Monroe Police Dept., not by hired private armed security. Facts.

The NRA has "proof" "it" has worked elsewhere? Sure they do. The NRA is a lobbyist group for gun manufacturers many of whom are on the NRA board along with some nutty people like Ted Nugent. Of course, the NRA and Wayne LaPierre who takes home a salary of $1million a year advocate more guns. It's quite profitable for the NRA and the reason for their existence.

The NRA claims they are getting thousands of new members daily. If true, that is disturbing. We do know that guns and ammo are flying of the shelves which should worry all of us. People "crying out for safety" who immediately run out to buy up all the guns and ammo they can get their hands on are reacting out of blind fear. The NRA and other pro-guns and more guns are the answer groups are very good at playing on and stoking the fears of so many gun owners. Ka-ching, ka-ching.

I don't know of any home up here in the north that doesn't contain hunting rifles or a handgun or two. I also don't know of any or know only a couple of those hand gun owners who have even considered or would want to carry a handgun around on their person regularly, out of their yard or at all ever. When they are doing is crying out for common sense gun safety as MH mentioned. None of them belong to the NRA or have dropped out due objecting to the NRA's advocating irresponsible gun ownership and dangerous practices.

Dec. 19, a 61 year old man "lost" his beretta semi-automatic, loaded, safety off, in an Oregon movie theatre. The next day, 3 bus loads of 7th graders had a field trip to the movie theatre when one 12 year old heard a clink when he sat in his seat. Another 7th grader noticed it was a gun that had dropped to the floor. Thank goodness, the sensible boys told the teacher who called the police instead of touching the gun. The gun owner was embarrassed but said he always keeps the gun loaded with a round in the chamber because he never knows when he may have to use it, mentioning the recent mass shootings.

All those panicked folks out there arming themselves out of terror sure don't make me feel safer, just the opposite. Fear that paralyzes rational thinking creates loose cannons.
