This story reminds me of our trip to the Canadian Rockies in June 1982. We began our trip through Kenora, on to Winnipeg and Birds Hill Provincial Park, then to Riding Mountain National Park. Then we passed through Saskatchewan and northern Alberta. We entered Jasper National Park. Wow, what a treat. We camped the whole way in the back of the pickup, and the elk came to eat the dog food from their dishes in the evening. We visited the Athabasca Glacier, Lake Louise (and Chateau Lake Louise), Banff National Park (and the Banff Springs Hotel). We then traveled south to Watertown Lakes National Park, where the elk again visited us in the evening. And then it was on to Glacier National Park. Experiences in U.S. National Parks isn't the same as the Canadian Parks. Too much restrictions and rules! Moving east we visited the Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park south of Butte and old Virginia City. After a couple days we passed through the Badlands of North Dakota.

A few years later, I took the Amtrak from Duluth to Spokane. Now this is a real treat. You get to see Americana from the backside. Wildlife galore, pass through Glacier. Outstanding.

I recommend anyone with time on their hands to take the same route. It is a trip of a lifetime and remember to take your camera.
