My Aunt Pat lived at home with her parents all of her life. When they became elderly and infirm, she cared for them until they both passed. My Mom , Pat’s oldest sister, talked my Dad into moving in with Pat ‘for a time’ to help her out, as Pat had never lived on her own. My parents remained with Pat for many years. The tables turned with who needed ‘help’ as my parents grew older, and needed Pat’s help. Pat assisted my parents, until they both passed. Pat was finally on her own, in her home, for the 1st time in her life. She was able to make all of her own decisions on what to eat, and what to watch on television. Due to 1 too many falls at home alone, Pat finally agreed to check out assisted living situations. She already knew St Michael’s in Virginia was not an option She’d spent a little time there doing re-hab after a surgery. She checked out the new facility (at her old grade school) , the old Horace Mann School in Virginia. Absolutely hated it. She walked into the facility in Tower, and smiled from ear to ear! She said ‘this is home!’’ , even before she finished the tour! Check it out folks if you have anyone considering assisted living. You will not be disappointed!
