I believe his exact statement (one that is repeated by all who are against mining but want to get elected) "I support mining if they can prove that it won't hurt the environment and they perform many years of testing and submittals" That is the reason he didn't lose by a landslide like the gentleman from Cook county who outwardly proclaimed to be anti-mining.
