For us Oldtimers 1969 was the last year deer were super abundant in the Ely area. Big bucks everywhere and in the winter you could see them overlooking cliffs.

1969 snow was approached 20 inches by Thanksgiving and it never did quit snowing. Deer die-off statewide was huge.

Like 100's of others I hunted east of Vermilion lake be it the Mud road or Wolf lake road-hunting was awesome. best hunting in the state.

Also back than the southern part of the state had few deer. Was something to see one down there in farm country.
