A good Opinion piece on Congressman Stauber. Especially liked, “... talking about sulfide mining...It is simply a surrogate for other cultural dividers, like the spittle over a couple Dr. Seuss books, who can use which school bathroom, or sports stars taking a knee for the anthem. In terms of our actual lives here in the Eighth District, these issues matter not at all, but they are cultural wedges that Republicans employ to keep Americans who should have common cause, divided. And they have proven remarkably effective at convincing many rural Americans to vote against policies that could make their lives better, out of fear of making life better for someone “on the other side” of that cultural divide. What a shame.” Exactly right. It is a shame and the frustrating thing is that the Stauber version of a Republican (the most common version) is impervious to shaming, reasoning, sarcasm, ridicule, or any other form of persuasion. Former Guy’s ability to exacerbate the cultural divide, while diabolical and destructive, has been so effective, you almost have to tip your hat to him... Well... Nah!
