ELY - Ely dropped a pair of tough games at home this week, falling 90-54 against Mountain Iron-Buhl on Tuesday, and 60-55 in overtime against Chisholm on Friday.

The Wolves couldn't gain much traction from the start against MIB.

"They jumped all over us early and we never fully recovered from it," Ely head coach Tom McDonald said. "They were very good in all facets of the game and shot the ball really well, and we just couldn't get shots to fall."

Carter Gaulke led the Wolves with 20 points and six rebounds, Pat Vanderbeek scored 17 points, Blaise Lah had eight rebounds and Evan Omerza distributed five assists.

It was a much closer contest against Chisholm, with the Wolves rallying from 12 down in the second half to take a one-point lead with under a minute to play.

Chisholm tied the score with a free throw, then Ely was unable to get a shot off on its final possession, forcing overtime.

The Wolves would get the first basket, but Chisholm would rattle off the final seven points to earn the win.

"I thought we played well enough to win the game, but just couldn't get it done," McDonald said. "We had 17 turnovers, which is too many in a close game like that."

Gaulke finished the night with 29 points, Izaak Nosbisch hauled in 10 rebounds and Omerza picked up six assists.
