ELY – The Ely School Board has selected Mary McGrane as the new 6-12 principal for the 2014-15 school year.

The motion was approved at a special meeting Monday night on a 5-0 vote. Board chairman Ray Marsnik abstained from voting, citing a family relationship through marriage with one of the candidates.

As of this report, the Timberjay has not yet confirmed whether McGrane has officially accepted the position.

McGrane and another candidate, Theresa Knife Chief, former superintendent of the St. Louis School District, were interviewed Aug 20 by the school board and a community interview committee. That committee sat in on the interviews and rated the candidates on their answers to 31 questions.

Two other candidates who were also offered interviews, but declined the offer.

McGrane, of Ely, was most recently the assessment and accountability coordinator for White Bear Lake School District, serving in that role from 2011 to 2014. From 2007-2011, she was director of curriculum, instruction and assessment at Weld RE 5J School District in Milliken, Colo. McGrane was federal programs director for Centennial Board of Cooperative Educational Services of Northeast Colo. from 2004-2007. Before that, she held the position of State Director of Federal Programs for the Wyoming Department of Education from 2001-2004.
