ELY - The Ely offense was sharp early and didn’t let up, leading to a runaway 91-47 home victory over Fond du Lac Ojibwe on Tuesday.

The Wolves sprinted to a 50-21 halftime lead before easing to the win.

Pat Vanderbeek was the top scorer with 21 points, with Evan Omerza scoring 18 points and distributing nine assists and Carter Gaulke delivering 11 assists.

Braxton Casey and Izaak Nosbisch each pulled down eight rebounds.

Ely had a closer first half, but ended with a similar dominant win on Saturday, defeating host Duluth Marshall 80-57.

Gaulke hit nine three-pointers, eight in the second half, to finish with 32 points.

“We found him well when he had the hot hand,” Ely head coach Tom McDonald said.

Gaulke also picked up seven assists, while Omerza posted 18 points and 12 assists and Vanderbeek scored 19 points.

Ely rallied after a slow start, but couldn’t come all the way back at Mountain Iron-Buhl on Friday, falling 66-47.

Ely cut an early 27-7 deficit to 35-24 by the half, but MIB reasserted itself after the break to gain the win.

Vanderbeek had 21 points, Gaulke scored 14 and Omerza recorded seven assists.

“We didn't take care of the ball early in the game and had six turnovers in the first four minutes,” McDonald said.
