Hanna an assault weapon for the mining industry

Posted

Thanks to the editor of the Timberjay for covering the sad conduct of the Mesabi Daily News and editor Bill Hanna.

One of my favorite headlines in the MDN reported that 3A candidate Bill Hansen was “seething.” I’ve known Bill Hansen for many years and he’s always displayed the temperament of a calm, professional public servant. Seething is not part of his personality.

The one person in our district that can be counted on to be “seething” is—Bill Hanna. Hanna has a hard time using the word environmentalist without putting the word radical in front of it.

Mining is less than one percent of Minnesota’s economy but Hanna has elevated it to sacred status. Our communities are withering away, our public waters are degraded by powerful mining corporations, the taxpayers have to spend a quarter of a billion dollars to build a bridge to move Highway 53 for the mining industry, and Hanna just gives them applause.

Our culture is being captured by the global mining industry and the Mesabi Daily News is one of their best assault weapons.
