Perhaps readers have begun to see campaign signs springing up supporting Melissa Roach for 2142 School Board. Perhaps some are wondering, “Who is Melissa Roach?” Over the past several months, I have come to know Melissa well. I’ve had the pleasure of working on a number of projects with her and witnessed the many skills she will bring to this post.
Melissa is a good listener and a deep thinker. She seeks facts from a range of sources in an effort to be fully informed before she formulates her own position or plan of action.
Melissa really cares about children. A resident of Bear River for 13 years, and a dedicated mother of two, both attending North Woods School, her interest extends beyond her own family and out to children throughout our district. She’s concerned about their education, nutrition, health, and wellbeing. She has a solid understanding of child development and worked as a behavioral specialist in the Bemidji Schools. She is committed to addressing their special needs.
Melissa values open communication. She describes her role on the school board as being a “voice” of the people she represents. She knows the importance of building strong relationships with the community that fosters the trust and dialogue needed to tackle the challenges facing our district.
Melissa sees the importance of accountability. When it comes to information and communication, she strives for openness and honesty, transparency, and accuracy. She appreciates diverse perspectives. She is creative and considers not just what matters in the present, but what may be important in the future.
Melissa takes seriously the responsibilities of this position, including that of managing the precious resources of the District, its financial resources as well as its human resources of teachers and support staff. Melissa is a person of integrity, intelligent, sensitive and committed to being the best representative she can be. Please vote for Melissa Roach for ISD 2142 School Board on Nov. 8.
