Kimberly J. Hagedorn

Kimberly “Kim’’ J. Hagedorn, 48, of Ely, died on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 3 at the Ely Gospel Tabernacle Church. Burial was in the Ely Cemetery. Kim is sadly missed by her family and friends; she will be remembered each and every day; her love is like the wind, we can’t see it but we can feel it. Family arrangements were entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.

Survivors include her daughter, Christina White, fiancée, Jim Childers, mother, Betty Hagedorn and sister, Tracy (Bob) Amitrano, all of Ely; brothers, Randy (JoAnne) Hagedorn of Green Bay, Wis., and Ricky Hagedorn of Rush City; grandmother, Kathryn (Howard) Hague of Blue Earth; many nieces and nephews, including Nicole (Joe) Shusta of Ely; and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Charles F. Udovich

Charles Francis Udovich, 56, died on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, 2009, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth in the care of hospice. Charles was injured in a vehicle accident on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, and the severity of these injuries led to his death. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Range Funeral Home in Virginia. The Rev. John Cowan will officiate. Private burial services will take place at the Florenton Cemetery.

Survivors include two sisters, Elizabeth (Glenn) Hayes of Anchorage, Alaska, and Victoria Emmons of Britt; three brothers, Thomas Udovich of Duluth, Joseph Udovich of Melrude and Robert (Mary Gentilini) Udovich of Embarrass; nine nieces and nephews; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jacob and Mary Thelen of Virginia; sisters-in-law, Ann Marie (Todd) Heinonen and Laura (Milo Strom) Thelen, both of Virginia; and brothers-in-law, John Thelen of Virginia and Paul (Cheryl) Thelen of Eveleth.

Julia Sayovitz

Julia “Lil” Sayovitz, 95, of Ely, passed away on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009. A Funeral Mass was said on Saturday, Nov. 28 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely. Burial was in the Ely Cemetery. Family arrangements were entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.

Julia is survived by her two children, Pat Koski of Ely and John (Nancy) Sayovitz of Marietta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Michael (Judy) Koski of Golden Valley, Sally (Tom) Fauchald of Grand Rapids and Steve Sayovitz of Mentor, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Philip, Erin and Paul Koski; two step-great-grandchildren, Erica and Ben Fauchald; and several nieces and nephews.

Jennie M. Salo

Jennie M. Salo, 92, a Virginia resident for five years and formerly of Hibbing, died on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, in Virginia. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec.2 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Erik Holleque officiating. Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include her brother, Rudy Jackopich of Virginia; sister, Rose (John) Gonzales of California; 13 nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Edna Jackopich of Cook; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Frances Bober

Frances “Fran” Bober, 90, former longtime resident of Chisholm, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at St. Michael’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia. A Mass of Christian Burial was said on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chisholm, with Rev. Fred Method as the celebrant. Interment was in the Chisholm Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.

Fran is survived by one son, Albert (Karen) Bober of Brookston; one daughter, Patricia “Pat” (Joseph) Surla of Lake Vermilion-Cook; four grandchildren, Paulette (Greg) Lind, Ronald (Terri) Bober, Peter (Barbara) Bober and Ralph (Michelle) Bober; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Junneth Bakk

Junneth Bakk, 89, of Cook, passed away at home, with her loving family at her side, as she went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009. Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 30 at the First Baptist Church in Cook with Rev. Randy Swenson as the officiant. Burial was in the Cook Community Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook. The family would like to thank the East Range Hospice for the wonderful and compassionate care given to their mother.

She is survived by sons, David Bakk of Cook and Brian (Jeri Lynn) Bakk of Brooklyn Center; daughters, Elizabeth Halik of Mountain Iron and Julianne (Lee) Marconett of Virginia; brother, Tom (Julie) Ojard of Babbitt; stepsisters, Marion (Clyde) Craven of Proctor and Arlene Faile of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, Bruce, Dale, Michael, Caleb (Kristy), Tricia (Matthew), Dylan, Taylor and Connor; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Ryan; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Mildred Gobats

Mildred “Millie’’ Brita Soderberg Autio Gobats, 92, of Cook, died on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at the Cook Nursing Home, ending a good long run. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook, with Rev. Melissa Stoller officiating Arrangements were with Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook. Memorials can be made to the Cook Nursing Home Day Activities Fund or Trinity Lutheran Church Renovation Fund.

Millie’s many survivors include nieces and nephews, Bailey (Soderberg) and William Conger, Thomas Soderberg, Ronald and Beverly (Kallio) Kmett, all of Cook; Charles (Sara Shaler) Russell and Ric (Sheila) Russell, both of St. Paul; Gail Lynn (Alan) Higgenbottom of Zion, Ill.; David (Pamela) Turner of Phoenix, Ariz.; Bonnie Jean Kallio of Duluth; Colleen (Bill) Sackrider of Coon Rapids; Jerry Johnson of Embarrass; Sheryl Enrico of Mesa, Ariz.; and Laurie (Doug) Syverson of Blaine; brothers-in-law, Charles Russell Jr. of St. Paul and Leonard Johnson of Soudan; sister-in-law, Doris Soderberg of Cook; her husband Joe’s children, John Gobats of Tower and Barbara (Skip) Romando of Mountain Iron; great-nieces and great-nephews; and many cousins and friends in Sweden.

Lynette Hakkila

Lynette “Cricket” Hakkila, 55, of Angora, died on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, after a courageous and lengthy battle with heart disease. Honoring her wishes, private family graveside services were held on Friday, Nov. 27 at the Sand Lake Cemetery in Britt. Arrangements were with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Duluth.

She is survived by her son, Ronald “DooPoo” Hakkila (Carmen Mickolichek) of Iron; daughter, Lynn “Dolly” Hakkila (Jeff Straw) of Angora; brother, Stanley (Cindy) Martinson of Britt; sister, Theresa Martinson of Angora; sister-in-law, Rhonda Martinson of Pike-Sandy; granddaughter, Hailey, and Hailey’s mother, Michelle of Gilbert; special companion, Dexter Straw of Angora; and her beloved dog, “Bud”; special nephews and nieces and friends; and numerous cousins.

John P. Novak

John Peter Novak, 87, of Ely, died on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial was said on Friday, Nov. 27 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely. Family arrangements were entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.

He is survived by his son, Bob (Millie) Priyatel; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Amelia) Novak; and one sister, Angela Grahek.

Edith M. Johnson

Edith M. Johnson, 91, of Cook, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at the Cook Nursing Home. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook, with Rev. Melissa Stoller as the officiant. Arrangements were with Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.

Edith is survived by her husband, Melvin K.; a son, Roy (Sharon) Johnson of Andover; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
