The Timberjay is pleased to announce the hiring of Keith Vandervort as the paper’s new editor in Ely. Vandervort brings extensive experience in the newspaper industry, where he has worked since graduating with a journalism degree in the 1980s.
He has worked for the past seven years as copy editor and page designer for several Gannet-owned daily newspapers in eastern Wisconsin, including papers in Fond du Lac, Oshkosh, Green Bay, and Sheboygan.
Prior to that, he worked as chief photographer for the daily Fond du Lac Reporter, and cut his teeth in the industry as a general assignment reporter and associate editor at weekly newspapers in Chilton, Wis., as well as in Fond du Lac.
Over the years, he’s won several awards for his photography, and received the Gannet Award of Excellence earlier this year for his page design.
“It certainly took longer than we anticipated to fill this position,” noted Timberjay Publisher Marshall Helmberger. “But Keith was definitely worth the wait. He brings vastly more experience in the business than any of the candidates we considered for the position. We’re confident he’s going to be a great addition to our team.”
Vandervort recently moved to Ely and started work in his new position this week. He’ll be working out of the Timberjay’s Ely office, so stop in and welcome him to the area.
