Construction begins on Cook Care Center addition

COOK- ‘Caring For Our Community’ is the theme of the Cook Care Center’s new construction project, which officially got underway here this week. “This project has been a long time in the making and we are looking forward to having it completed”, said Hospital Chief Executive Officer and Administrator Theresa Debevec. She also thanked “those who saw the value in this project: the IRRRB, the City of Cook, American Bank, the Hospital Auxiliary.”

The groundbreaking ceremony was the beginning of an $8.5 million construction project that adds 28 private rooms and a restorative rehab unit. Combined, the project will expand available space by 17,275 square feet across two household wings.

Cook Mayor Dr. Harold Johnston welcomed all to Cook and thanked “the residents, their families, the Board as well as the tremendous staff and the long-suffering taxpayers.”

“This hospital is so special to the community. You don’t think about it until you receive care. It is an honor to be here to see it grow and continue,” he said. With a nod to Bud Heiam and the W.C. Heiam Foundation, state Rep. Jason Metsa continued, “I am so proud of the generations of staff and families that continue a legacy here.”
