Will take on South Ridge Friday at Wade Stadium

WADE STADIUM— Another strong pitching performance and key hitting by senior Trevor Mattson late Wednesday, has put Ely in contention for the Section 7A baseball title. They’ll face South Ridge in the section championship here on Friday, at 5 p.m.

The Timberwolves pitchers have been phenomenal during the playoffs so far, allowing just one run in the past 28 innings pitched including Thursday’s semi-final round match-up with Carlton. Mattson struck out nine Bulldogs and allowed just four hits as he led the team to a 3-0 victory. Mattson also drove in the first and last runs of the game on singles that brought home senior Tyler Housey and junior Nils DeRemee, both of whom had reached on errors. In the fourth inning, Housey singled-in junior Dalton Schreffler, who had singled and later advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Bryce Longwell.

The Wolves will take on a South Ridge team that is on a hot streak of their own, having won 11 of their past 12 games. Check back here for more updates.
