ST. PAUL- A game effort by the Ely Timberwolves against Mayer Lutheran in first-round state volleyball tourney action comes up short as the Crusaders win in straight sets 3-0.
M-L came from behind to win a tight first set 25-23, cruised in a dominant second set win 25-13, and used a 21-5 run in the third to erase an early six-point Ely lead and win 21-16.
Ely will play in the 3 p.m. consolation bracket match on Friday. Their opponent has not beed determined at the time of this update.
