Grizzlies fall 59-55 in championship round

Runners-up at state for second year in a row

TARGET CENTER— For the second year in a row, the North Woods Grizzlies came away as runners-up at the state Class A boys basketball tournament. They were defeated 59-55 by Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in a heartbreaking contest that the Grizzlies led most of the way.

It was a seesaw affair, in which both teams led at times by double digits. The Knights took the lead early, but the Grizzlies rallied by the end of the first half. North Woods padded their lead through most of the second half, and led by as many as 11 points with just eight minutes to go.

But R-T-R battled back and took the lead with about two minutes remaining, and held on to claim the state Class A title.

The Timberjay will have much more on the game in next week's edition.
