ELY – Ely senior forward Luke Olson led an early onslaught for the Timberwolves last Friday night, but despite his hat trick, the Wolves finished on the losing end of a 10-3 contest with Moose Lake.
Olson scored ahead of the five-minute mark with assists by Dalton Schreffler and Jimmy Zupancich and he scored again to make it 2-1 after the Rebels had momentarily evened the score. Ely’s Seann Prigge notched the assist on Olson’s second goal.
Moose Lake went on to score three more times in the first period to take a 4-2 lead and added three more goals in the second before Olson answered with his third goal of the contest with an assist by Schreffler to leave the score at 7-3. The Rebels scored three unanswered goals in the third period to boost their final margin to 10-3.
The Timberwolves took a total of 31 shots on goal for the night, while the Rebels made the most of their 37 scoring chances against sophomore goalie Chase Sandberg. Ely’s Zupancich was called for tripping in the first period, and Justin Nyman went to the box on a hooking penalty in the second period.

The Golden Bears, with more than a dozen seniors, attacked the net early, scoring a minute into the game, and overwhelming Timberwolves’ goalie Ben Cavalier with 29 shots on goal to take an 8-0 lead in the first period.
Eveleth-Gilbert added another goal in the second period on 13 scoring chances, and added three more goals in the last frame on 10 scoring chances.
