The Timberjay has strived to keep us well-informed

Posted

I would like to whole heartedly congratulate everyone at the Timberjay for the amazing honors they received from the Minnesota Newspaper Association recently. For anyone that missed it, the Timberjay won first place awards in three categories along with five other top honors in second and third place for their outstanding reporting in our community! This small circulation paper has consistently strived to keep us well informed through their objective, well researched and timely reporting. Award judges noted their excellent pieces on PolyMet’s flawed final EIS assumption of direction of water flow, the exposé of Greenwood Township’s “absurd” board behaviors, their “best explanation of newspaper operations and ethics” as well as other notable work accomplished by the Timberjay.

We should all be thankful that we have a local newspaper that goes to the lengths that the Timberjay does without taking sides, making personal jabs or blindly accepting what the large interest industries in our area demand. I think we all know of a couple other publications nearby that would never consider reporting anything but the “company line” - even to the point of banning the use of certain words in their pages!

The information that we all depend on to make informed decisions that impact our community is crucial. The Timberjay is a huge source of very well reported local events, critical investigations and knowledge needed to keep informed.

Congratulations to the Timberjay and thank you!
