FIELD TWP - Ely jumped out to a quick lead, then put the game away late to defeat host North Woods 15-2 on Thursday.
The Wolves plated three runs in the first inning to take the lead, later sealing the win with a nine-run fourth inning.
Shayla Zaverl and Jenna Merhar each slugged three hits for Ely, with Courtney Kellogg, Cate DeRemee and Erika Mattson picking up two apiece.
Mattson earned the win, scattering five hits and striking out five.
Alli Sandberg doubled and scored a run and Claire Beaudry also had a hit and scored for the Grizzlies.
Ely followed with an exciting win the following day, coming from behind with two runs in the sixth to clip host Chisholm 8-7.
The Wolves then dropped their next three, 3-2 at Cook County on Saturday, 12-1 at home against International Falls on Monday and then a 3-2 nailbiter at Section 7A power Cherry on Tuesday.
Anna Urbas picked up the Wolves’ lone hit versus International Falls with an RBI double.
North Woods swept a home doubleheader over South Ridge on Friday, winning 4-3 and 4-2.
Sandberg was the winning pitcher in both games, striking out nine in the opener and another seven in the finale.
Kate Stone and Maddy Serna each had multi-hit games in the finale.
The Grizzlies fell 3-1 and 9-4 at Mountain Iron-Buhl on Monday and 13-7 at Deer River on Tuesday.
