The biggest con is that trump is on tape saying he knew exactly how dangerous Covid19 was from the start of the pandemic, re: Bob Woodward's book. He and his minions have downplayed the seriousness of this pandemic and they all did absolutely nothing to control it while continually undercutting the advice of scientists, doctors and epidemiologists. The US has the worst death and infection statistics in the world. As Laurie Garrett stated on twitter with a stunning map of North America Covid19 cases/deaths, "there is one place in the world where a map of Covid19 cases and deaths reveals a straight line, with a huge amount of disease on one side, very little on the other. Where? The 3,000+ mile border US/Canada." The map is stark and horrifying.

As MH stated in previous editorial, trump and GOP are baldfaced lying about having a replacement plan for ACA and that their mythical plan will keep protections for people with pre-existing conditions. They haven't had a plan for ten years. By now, most of us know people who have contracted Covid19 and some of us know people who have died. All Covid19 survivors would be uninsurable if trump and GOP have their way.

Reading some local newspapers, I am stunned that photos of local events still show some or none Iron Rangers wearing masks while posing close together. I assume the people who think masks are useless or asked to wear one is against their "rights and freedom", do wear seat belts and do put their babies and children in car seats. I wonder if trump told them that it's not dangerous to stand in a wide open field during a violent lightning storm, they'd believe him.

Trump is doing back to back super spreader rallies ignoring pleas from states to not hold huge rallies with few masks and no social distancing, states that are having major increases in Covid 19 cases, overwhelming hospitals, ICU beds and medical staff. There have been surges in Covid19 cases after his MN rallies and rallies in so many other states. He is sick of hearing Covid, Covid, Covid in the media. The media should only be covering him. He isn't at all concerned that his faithful supporters may get Covid19 from attending his packed sardine can rallies. He just wants their votes. This week in Omaha, hundreds of his fans, many senior citizens were left stranded in the cold for hours 2-3 miles from their cars because buses never arrived to pick them up. About 8 or 9 elderly people were hospitalized with Hypothermia. As yet, I have not seen any apologies to these folks from trump or the White House. If trump was actively trying to infect his followers with Covid19, how could we tell the difference. "They came for the Covid and left with Hypothermia. "

The last 8 months have been difficult for everyone but we have a tough road ahead for many months or longer. The pandemic isn't going to "round a corner" or just disappear and a reliable vaccine for everyone won't happen soon. Get your seasonal flu shot, you don't want to have seasonal flue and covid at the same time. Wearing a good mask, washing hands and social distance limiting exposure to very small groups if at all. It would be very helpful to us and our medical personnel if there were enough N95 masks, they block more than 99% of droplets and 95% of aerosolized virus, but trump administration never invoked the Defense Protection Act to make an adequate supply available for frontline workers, let alone the rest of us folks.

I cannot think of one Republican federal or state legislator that is dealing with reality or puts regular Americans health and well-being first. You can't have an economic recovery without controlling the pandemic. Even the corporations, business world and Wall Street understand that. Trump toady Republican legislators go along with whatever hogwash trump spouts. MN Republicans want to "open" up wide (masks, social distancing optional), our state to what, more covid cases, overwhelm our hospitals, particularly rural, small town hospitals/clinics, field hospitals, more loved ones dying or left with lifelong covid issues? I've heard average or higher income Iron Rangers say as long as they got a tax cut and they are doing fine, covid and masks are overblown, why should they worry about other people. Same self serving attitudes as the GOP.
