Somehow Stauber, who was a very good hockey player, never learned to accept defeat.. it seems Stauber only learned to cheat when needing to ensure victory. During the NCAA finals in 1988.his team was playing St. Lawrence to a 3-3 tie late into the third period when St. Lawrence peppered Stauber’s goalie in a heated attempt to score. Stauber deliberately and illegally lifted the net off the pylons stopping play No penalty.. The game then went to overtime where Stauber’s team prevailed. Lesson learned, cheat at all costs to win.
