I remember the winter of 1995-96. Ver very cold and lot of snow. We were winter camping in Quetico. Gray jays were still very abundant. We had a jay fly into camp and just fell over dead. All skin and bones.

The gray jay population crashed that winter and I never seen them recover from that year. They had plenty of time to recover since.
