Wolves average 18-20 adult equivalent deer each year and the wolf population in spring is around 2500 and fall to around 3000. That is 50,000-60,000 deer per year. Yes, wolves are holding populations down.

Too large of clear cuts do not benefit deer after a couple of years and food content is low.

Seen numerous traditional winter yards that once were heavy coniferous that were overcut. Deer yards are not used anymore.

It is a combo of things.
