REGIONAL- Ely’s Caid Chittum ran to the championship of the Iron Range Conference cross country meet on Oct. 8, with teammate Molly Brophy taking second in the girls’ race.
Chittum led the boys to a second-place finish in the five-team competition on the Hoyt Lakes Golf Course with a race-winning time of 17:21.19. Five other Wolves notched spots in the top 15, including Silas Solum, seventh, 18:09.1, Otto Devine, tenth, 18:27.64, Brooks Brenny, 12th, 18:30.56, Mason Kurnava, 13th, 18.45.07, and Eli Olson, 18:53.91. Runner-up Ely finished 18 points behind Greenway/Nashwauk/Keewatin, which nabbed four of the top six times in the field.
In the four-team girls competition, Brophy clocked a time of 19:51.79, 16 seconds behind winner Olivia Pascuzzi of Chisholm. Three other Wolves cracked the top 15, including Mattie Lindsay, seventh, 20:48.64, Isabella Macho, 11th, 22:08.51, and Elsa Ellerbroek, 13th, 23:07.82. Greenway/Nashwauk/Keewatin edged out the Wolves for the team title by only two points.
The Wolves were scheduled to run on Tuesday at International Falls. Race results were not available prior to press time.
