Great turnout for this year’s Vermilion Run

TOWER- There was a record turnout for this the 42nd year of the Fourth of July Vermilion 5K/10K Run
We had 268 runners, plus over 40 children participating in the Kid’s 1-Mile Fun Run. Fifty runners tackled the 10K distance and 218 ran or walked the 5K. Last year there were 56 running the 10K and 180 running the 5K.
The weather was warm, not too hot, but quite humid, so runners mostly reported having a great race.
The race had many large families participating, and runners ranged from the single digits to over 70. One of the goals of this race is to encourage a love of running and outdoor activity, so kids 12 and under race for free, and the family rate allows all family members to race for the rate of two paid adults. The race is a fundraiser for Vermilion Country School, a grades 7-12 public charter school in Tower that serves students from a 50-mile radius. Money raised goes to support student and staff needs that aren’t covered by regular school funding.
