ISABELLA— The Greenwood Fire escaped efforts to control its spread west of Hwy. 2 in Lake County on Friday as strong and gusty southeast winds fueled significant fire growth on Friday. Inciweb listed the fire at 8,215 acres as of Friday evening.
According to Inciweb, the fire scene today saw "extreme wind driven runs with short range spotting and group torching. Resistance to control due to prolonged drought and heavy fuels."
Fire officials were concerned late Friday about a looming cold front that could bring a wind shift, along with gusts of up to 50 mph, potentially creating extreme fire behavior.
