REGIONAL — The Northeast Range/Ely swim team made the trip to Duluth on Saturday for the Section 7A True Team meet at Lincoln Park Middle School, hosted by Duluth East High School. Twelve schools competed in the event, which drew fields of up to 45 swimmers in individual races. The Nighthawks finished 11th overall in team scoring.
True Team swim meets in Minnesota are designed to reward depth rather than just top-end speed, as every swimmer’s finish contributes to the overall score. That structure gives smaller teams like NREG the chance to showcase their full roster’s effort and consistency across all events.
Several Nighthawks cracked the Top 10 in their events.
Via DeBeltz placed sixth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:08.33, while Tuuli Koivisto earned a tenth-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 1:12.77.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Evelyn Moran, Jorden Borchert, Raegan Borchert, and Lucy Luthens also turned in a strong performance, placing 12th overall in 2:00.31.
