Timberwolves run roughshod over Littlefork-Big Falls

LITTLE FORK — The Ely Timberwolves volleyball team went on the road on Tuesday and crushed the Littlefork-Big Falls Vikings, 3-0.
Getting good production across the front line, the Wolves cruised through the first set 25-7. The Vikings upped their game in the second set, pushing the Wolves hard before falling 25-22. But the Vikings team of the second was nowhere to be found in the third, as the Wolves dominated every aspect of play in a stunning 25-2 win.
“We were able to run our new offense and get that put in place,” Ely Head Coach Megan Wognum said. “It gave us an opportunity to have everyone get some swings in. We had some wonderful consistent servers who were able to give us a few runs.”
That new offense spread the scoring wealth around, with Amelia Penke and Charlotte Hegman leading the team in kills with six each, and Lydia Shultz and Sadie Rechichi hot on their heels with five apiece. Makenzi Huntington had the hottest hand at the service line with nine aces, and she also topped the team in set assists with 13, one more than Gretta Lowe.
Ely had a match scheduled on Thursday at Cherry before a Saturday tournament at Greenway. The Wolves will be back at home on Monday to take on Chisholm.
