REGIONAL – Two men were injured last Wednesday morning when the Dodge Ram trucks they were in collided at the intersection of Highway 169 and County Road 21 northeast of Virginia.
According to an incident report from the Minnesota State Police, a 2007 Dodge Ram truck driven by Tyler D. Carlson, 32, of Cloquet, failed to stop for a stop sign on County Road 21. The truck was hit by a northbound 2012 Dodge Ram truck driven by Andrew G. Merhar, 38, of Babbitt.
The roads were snow and ice covered at the time of the crash, about 9:30 a.m.
Both drivers were transported by ground ambulance to Essentia Hospital. Neither men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to the State Patrol. Alcohol was not a factor in the incident, officials said.
Carlson’s fiancé, Corral Meskill, of Ely, said, “He ended up with a concussion and a broken C3 vertebrae. He’s extremely lucky to not be paralyzed.”
St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department, Pike Sandy First Responders, and the Virginia Ambulance Service responded to the crash scene.
