COOK- Residents of Cook Care Center were joined by members of the staff, community members, and the Cook VFW honor guard for an early observance of Memorial Day at the center.
Care center Director of Nursing Theresa Henshaw was the featured speaker for the event. Henshaw is a decorated U.S. Navy veteran who served during Operation Desert Storm.
"For many here today, Memorial Day is not just something in the history books, " she said. "It is something you lived through. You remember the sound of the news on the radio, the letters sent across oceans, and the prayers whispered at night, hoping for loved ones to come home early, safely. You understand in a very real way what sacrifice means."
Pastor Brian Haynes, of First Baptist Church, led prayer and the singing of patrotic songs and hymns. All enjoyed a reception following the ceremony.
