ELY — The Ely Timberwolves split three games over the past week, overpowering Chisholm in a Friday rout while falling to International Falls and Mt. Iron-Buhl.

International Falls
Ely erased the threat of an early ending with a six-run fifth inning Thursday but could not climb out of a large deficit in a 13-7 loss to the Broncos.
International Falls piled up four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Mara Buller, then steadily added to its lead over the next several innings while building a 10-0 advantage through five innings.
The Timberwolves finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth.
Julia Zgonc started the inning with a single and later scored on a passed ball, while Ely continued to apply pressure with walks, a hit batter, and aggressive baserunning. Zoe MacKenzie delivered a two-run single to left field, Amelia Penke followed with an RBI double, and MacKenzie later scored when Ella Perish reached on an error. Lucy Oelke added an RBI single later in the inning as the Wolves cut the deficit to 10-6.
Ely added another run in the seventh when Perish singled home Lindi Zemke, but the Broncos answered with three more runs over the final two innings to stay in control.
Zgonc and Penke each collected two hits for Ely, while MacKenzie and Perish drove in two runs apiece. MacKenzie took the loss in the circle, allowing 15 hits while striking out four.

Chisholm
The Timberwolves broke open a close game with a ten-run third inning Friday on the way to a 14-2 rout over Chisholm in five innings.
Ely wasted little time taking control, scoring four runs in the first inning. Peyton Huntington opened the game with a hit and two stolen bases before later scoring on a sacrifice fly by Makenzi Huntington. Perish followed later in the inning with a two-run double and later scored when Zgonc reached base on an error.
Chisholm chipped away with single runs in the second and third innings to pull within 4-2, but the Timberwolves answered with an avalanche in the bottom of the third.
Ely sent 15 batters to the plate during the inning, piling up six hits while also taking advantage of walks, an error, and aggressive baserunning. Penke singled home two runs during the rally, Zgonc drove in two more with a single to center, and MacKenzie added an RBI hit. Perish also picked up an RBI after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, while P. Huntington brought home another run with a sacrifice fly.
The Wolves finished with ten hits in the shortened game. Zgonc collected two hits and three RBIs, while Perish drove in four runs. P. Huntington, MacKenzie, Penke, and Grace Flynn also added hits during the offensive outburst.
Naomi Archer earned the win in the circle, allowing three hits and striking out two.

Mt. Iron-Buhl
Ely outhit Mt. Iron-Buhl 9-5 on Monday but came up short in a 2-1 loss after the Rangers rallied in the seventh inning.
The Timberwolves scored their lone run in the second inning when Zgonc singled home Zemke, who had opened the inning with a hit.
Ely threatened repeatedly throughout the game but stranded runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings.
Mt. Iron-Buhl scored both of its runs in the top of the seventh.
After a one-out single and an Ely error put two runners aboard, a two-run single to right field gave the Rangers the lead.
M. Huntington led Ely offensively with three hits, while Zemke and Zgonc each added two. MacKenzie allowed five hits and struck out six in the complete-game effort.
