ELY — The Ely Timberwolves went on a volleyball marathon this past week with six matches in the space of five days, and while they won five of those matches, a grudge match against the team that ended Ely’s 59-match home winning streak got away.
First up last Thursday wan a 3-1 road win at Cherry.
On Saturday, the Wolves were in the field at the Greenway invitational tournament, with matches played in best-of-three format. Ely took down Nashwauk-Keewatin and Cherry in straight sets and defeated Mesabi East 2-1, but the Greenway Raiders remained a puzzle the Wolves couldn’t solve, dropping the match 2-0.
But the Wolves got right back on track at home on Monday against Chisholm, toppling the Bluestreaks 3-0.
Ely was scheduled to travel to Mesabi East on Thursday and to International Falls next Tuesday as they tune up for a trip to Burnsville to take on some of the best Class A teams in the state in the Minnesota Volleyball Showcase.
