REGIONAL — The Ely boys and girls came to run on Tuesday at the Paul Bauer invitational cross country meet at Grand Rapids, with the girls taking third and the boys taking first in one of the larger meets of the regular season.
Molly Brophy led the girls’ effort in the 13-team event, taking third with a time of 20:49.3. Mattie Lindsay clocked a 21:01.9 for sixth, and Katy Brophy rounded out the contingent of Wolves finishing in the top quarter of the field by taking 25th with a time of 23.17.9
The Ely boys placed three runners in the top quarter of the 117-runner field, led by Wyatt Devine in seventh with a time of 17:52.9. Otto Devine finished 24th in 18:48.4, and Mason Kurnava placed 29th in 19:09.9.
North Woods
North Woods runners helped the combined South Ridge Panthers team to fifth-place showings in both the boys and girls competition.
North Woods’ Kahlil Lightfeather-Spears placed ninth with a time of 17:57.8, while teammate Lincoln Antikainen placed 18th with a time of 18:27.4.
For the girls, Zoey Burckhardt placed tenth with a time of 21:36.3.
