REGIONAL — After a long trip for a tough loss against Chisholm in the Twin Cities on Dec. 6, the Ely girls basketball team was back on the road last Thursday to take on Floodwood and came home on the short end of a 57-46 score.
Lydia Shultz came to the fore to keep the Wolves within striking distance, dropping in 23 points.
Shultz hit five deuces, two triples and went seven-of-eight from the free throw line while also leading the team in steals with six.
She also was a force on the boards for Ely, snagging eight caroms, just two shy of Amelia Penke’s team-leading ten.
The loss dropped Ely to 1-4 on the season heading into Thursday’s scheduled rivalry game at North Woods. The Grizzlies were also 1-4. The Wolves will play two games over the winter break, hosting Two Harbors on Dec. 29 and Fond du Lac on Dec. 31.
