ELY — The wait is over for bargain hunters and outdoor enthusiasts. The City of Ely is set to host its massive annual City-Wide Rummage Sale, Business Crazy Day, and Used Equipment and Watercraft Sale on Saturday, May 16. Rummage sales will kick off city-wide, starting at 8 a.m.; times vary for retail businesses.
This premier spring event turns the entire community into an expansive marketplace, offering everything from vintage household finds to professional-grade wilderness gear. Whether you are outfitting a cabin, searching for rare antiques, or looking to upgrade your summer wardrobe, Saturday promises a full day of discovery.
City-wide maps featuring dozens of registered residential sales are available at the Ely Chamber of Commerce and various local retailers. These maps serve as the ultimate guide to navigating the hidden gems tucked away in neighborhoods across town.
Business Crazy Day
Ely’s downtown district will be buzzing with energy as local merchants move their inventory to the sidewalks. Shoppers can expect discounts, end-of-season clearances, and special one-day-only promotions at participating retailers.
The used equipment and watercraft sale is a cornerstone of the event for north woods adventurers. Renowned local outfitters and private sellers will be offering high-quality used canoes, kayaks, camping equipment, and fishing gear. It is the perfect opportunity to secure reliable equipment for the upcoming open water season.
Many local restaurants and coffee shops will be open to fuel shoppers for the day. Traveling from outside of the Ely area? Consider a Friday night stay at one of our many lodging establishments, which will allow an early start for the many rummage sales opening at 8 a.m.
“There is an incredible energy in Ely during this event,” says Eva Sebesta, executive director of the Ely Chamber of Commerce. “It’s more than just a sale; it’s a community celebration that brings together locals and visitors to kick off the summer season in the north woods.”
