Grizzlies extend their win streak to five before loss

FIELD TWP — The North Woods boys notched two more wins on their belts last week before Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin ended their win streak at five games on Monday.
When the Grizzlies hosted Littlefork-Big Falls on Thursday they were up by five at the half, 32-27, and led by as many as 11 points in the second before a concerted run by the Vikings pulled them to within two at 63-61 with three minutes left to play. But the defense stiffened, and a breakaway layup by TaySean Boshey-Wilkerson at the 1:44 mark got the Grizzlies back on track offensively. Two scores by Cedar Holman, another basket by Boshey-Wilkerson, and a Sawyer Glass charity gave the Grizzlies the points they needed to close out the 72-61 win.
Holman scorched the net for 24 points, Boshey-Wilkerson scored 20, and Elias Sheffer tallied 12 to lead the North Woods victory.

Chisholm
Like the Grizzlies, the Bluestreaks are in the midst of a rebuilding year, and North Woods showed that they are farther along in the process on Friday with a 53-32 smackdown at Chisholm.
The defense came up big for North Woods, forcing 27 turnovers, making 15 steals and 26 deflections, and the Grizzlies cashed those Chisholm miscues in for 22 points. North Woods played consistently on the offensive end, scoring 27 in the first half and 26 in the second on 38 percent shooting.
Hartway topped the scoring with 13, while Holman chipped in 11 and Sheffer ten.

G/NK
Flying high with their win streak, the Grizzlies fell back to earth against Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin. North Woods was hanging close with G/NK at 19-14, but the Titans dealt the Grizzlies a knockout blow with a 27-4 run to close out the first half to take a 46-18 lead at the break. The Grizzlies never mounted a serious comeback in the second half, falling 75-45. The Titans outshot the Grizzlies 49 percent to 33 percent.
Boshey-Wilkerson was the only Grizzlies’ player in double figures with 16.
