AURORA — North Woods athletes turned in several strong distance performances Tuesday at the Arrowhead Conference meet at Mesabi East, enduring a raw spring afternoon marked by stiff winds, chilly temperatures, and occasional raindrops that made for less-than-ideal track conditions.
The Grizzlies boys were led by standout efforts from their distance runners.
Freshman Kahlil Lightfeather-Spears placed third in the 3,200 meters with a personal-best time of 10:42.67, giving North Woods its highest finish of the meet.
Senior Lincoln Antikainen added a pair of top-10 performances, taking fourth in the 1,600 meters in 5:06.70 and fifth in the 3200 in 11:39.74. Antikainen also placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 15-10.5.
On the girls side, sophomore Aubrey Olson-Stoltenberg recorded North Woods’ lone individual top-10 finish on the track, placing sixth in the 400 meters in 1:11.23.
The Grizzlies also earned a sixth-place finish in the 4x200 relay, where Corra Brodeen, Josie Pascuzzi, Rylie Gibson, and Charlotte Anderson combined for a time of 2:08.85.
