I’m surprised, and not pleasantly so, with the lack of editorial license used in last week’s letter from Mike Banovetz. His letter disparaged Democrats, as usual, with a lot of one-sided adjective-filled malarky. Other than demonstrating his limited thinking, most of it was not particularly harmful. However, the last paragraph was downright dangerous to print.
Though most of us would simply dismiss that paragraph as the usual dribble he spews, there is a small percentage of people who could take it as a call to arms. It should have been removed (with appropriate editorial comment).

Editor’s Note: We agree that Mr. Banovetz’s rhetoric bordered on inciteful. We also believe it is important to document the dangerous views that are regularly espoused by the far-right in the country. Recent reporting on the racist and pro-Nazi rhetoric shared in texts by hundreds of prominent Young Republicans around the country has also provided that much-needed spotlight on the views and attitudes of those currently politically dominant in our country. It is a perilous time in our nation’s history, and it is important to expose these individuals with their own words.
