REGIONAL—Good things come to those who wait… just ask ten-year-old Boone Broten, of Tower, who shot his first deer, an impressive eight-point buck on Oct. 18.
He and his father Dean had spent the prior three days of the recent youth deer season sitting in a stand a couple miles west of town. After three days without seeing a deer, Boone acknowledged he wanted to stop.
But he stuck it out, and the payoff came early Sunday morning, when he and his dad spotted an eight-point buck moving through the woods along the edge of one of the only pastures in the area. “I got really excited,” said Boone, who watched the deer for about a minute before it turned and started heading right for the stand. Boone aimed, fired, and the big deer bucked, then ran about 20 yards before falling over.
“My dad got really excited, too,” said Boone.
The deer has since been quartered and they were able to eat some of the meat from Boone’s first deer.
And, so, how did it taste?
“Good,” said Boone.
