STURGEON TWP— A rural family here lost their home and three pets in a daytime house fire on Heino Road, several miles west of Idington.
Multiple volunteer fire departments from around the area responded, but found the house fully engulfed. The homeowner was present and trying to rescue family pets from the burning manufactured home, but two dogs and a cat reportedly died in the blaze. The Red Cross was contacted and is assisting the family at this time.  
Responding to the scene were deputies from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office as well as firefighters from Kinney-Great Scott, Pike/Sandy/Britt, and Cook fire departments. The Cook Ambulance Service and the Virginia Sprint Medical Unit also responded.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
