BABBITT- It’s been a long time coming, but the North Woods girls golf team finally has a couple of tournaments under their belt, hitting the Babbitt meet on Tuesday and a Virginia meet on Monday.
Multi-time state tourney qualifier Tori Olson has once again established herself as the team leader by shooting team low scores in both events. Olson fired a 42 at Babbitt on Tuesday for third place, just three strokes off the winning score of 39 posted by Kelby Anderson of International Falls.
Madison Dantes was the second lowest Grizzly in the Babbitt field, placing 12th with a 54. Talise Goodsky scored a 61 for 16th, and a trio of Grizzlies, Brynn Chosa, Carsyn Burnett, and Izzy Pascuzzi, placed 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, respectively in the four-team event. Collectively, North Woods finished fourth.
Golfers from five schools squared off Monday in a nine-hole meet at the Virginia Golf Course, and Olson placed sixth for the Grizzlies with a 46, losing a fifth-place tiebreaker with Emma Berg of Rock Ridge. Dantes made the circuit in 58 strokes, good enough for 11th. Goodsky, Chosa, Pascuzzi, Burnett, Aleah Bangs and Sophie Bangs all shot more than 30 over par. Among the three schools that fielded complete teams, North Woods placed third.
