This week I received a fund-raising appeal from Sen. Hauschild, expressing his anger because the “Big, Beautiful Bill” that just passed Congress gave “billionaires in the largest cities across our country…more tax breaks,” and chastised Pete Stauber for voting for it.
The Senator has a short memory.
In the recently concluded legislative session, he championed legislation giving huge tax breaks to some of those same billionaires – for decades to come – when they build climate-busting mega data centers in Minnesota. Apparently, it’s bad when Pete Stauber votes to benefit billionaires, but good when Senator Hauschild does.
As he points out in the fundraising appeal, Sen. Hauschild will doubtless face a tough reelection fight in the next election. I don’t think he helps his cause, and likelihood of maximizing donations, by criticizing other politicians for doing the same thing he does.
