Last Saturday, Bev and I joined the 7 million+ Americans who gathered at their “No Kings” rallies. We assumed that our rally along Silver Lake in Virginia would be genuinely friendly, and it certainly was. Some 772 democracy-rooted folks of all ages spent two hours warmly and seriously connecting with each other between enthusiastic cheering! We all needed that. There were lots of heartfelt conversations about our current situation and what we can to do to try to retrieve our beloved, democratic form of government from the Republican MAGA, authoritarian horror we’ve slipped into. It’s not going to be easy. It’s going to require real participation, and there is no guarantee that we’ll return to being a true democracy again. The one thing we have on our side is numbers. That was certainly shown nationwide on Saturday. Most Americans still prefer to live freely in a democracy. Let’s work at it.
