Tower Depot and Train Museum opens for season May 16

Open daily through the summer season

The Tower-Soudan Historical Society is pleased to announce the opening of the Depot Information Center, Museum and Gift Shop, located across from the Civic Center in Tower. We plan to be open May 16 until the weekend after Labor Day, Sept. 10, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily except Sunday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Our membership keeps growing and is vital to our organization. We had 65 members early this year and are already up to 117. Help keep history alive and support the historical society projects by joining the Tower-Soudan Historical Society for $5 for an individual membership or $10 for a family membership. You can join the TSHS by stopping by the depot museum after May 16, calling Jayne at 753-2526, TSHS at 753-2301, or emailing Jayne at suns@frontiernet.net.

TSHS is a lively organization. We have a curator working on the displays in the museum and another crew setting up the “all new” gift shop in the entrance to the museum. We already have had two school groups come for train tours. The Potters Field project is on its way; the train restoration crew has met and agreed on a work list and action plans for the new year.

This year, thanks to Work Study, we have a new staff person at the depot museum, Joe DeMarco, a student at the Vermilion Community College in Ely. Joe is training to be a Conservation Officer and looking forward to meeting more Tower, Soudan and Lake Vermilion residents.

Thanks for helping keep local history alive and don’t forget to stop in at the Museum and Gift Shop where you can tour the museum and train cars and admission is free. A playground and picnic tables are available in the adjacent park.
