Tower-Soudan graduation

Posted

It was a full house on May 27 as the 20 seniors from Tower-Soudan received their diplomas. The evening was bittersweet, as most graduations are. The added weight of the school’s long and proud history was the unspoken thought of most in the audience, since this was the final graduating class of the Tower-Soudan High School.

“This may be the end of the legacy of Tower-Soudan,” said Class of 2011 President Shyla Martin, “but for us, it is the beginning of our future.”

“They saved the best for last,” said Martin, to applause from the audience full of family, friends and community members. Martin, who did not start school at Tower-Soudan spoke about how she found a family here.

Lindsay Sikora and Celeste White talked about their journey through the years.

“No matter where life takes us,” they said, “we will remember our roots.”

Dean of Students Scott Chiabotti spoke about watching this class grow into fine young adults.

“Do not forget your small town roots,” he said. “No matter where you go, you will always be Golden Eagles.”

“Corner of the Sky,” a song from the musical Pippin, was sung by Max Helmberger and the lyrics had added meaning this year.

“Rivers belong where they can ramble. Eagles belong where they can fly. I’ve got to be where my spirit can run free. Got to find my corner of the sky.”
