ORR — A 66-year-old Orr man was arrested Monday after authorities say he left the scene of a crash and was later found near a pickup truck that had caught fire.
According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, Randy Johnson, 66, of Orr, was booked into the Virginia jail on charges of driving under the influence and failure to stop after an accident.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 4:20 p.m. to a reported hit-and-run on the Orr-Buyck Road near Schlomka Road. Occupants of the vehicle that was struck reported no injuries. Witnesses reported seeing a pickup truck leave the scene heading west on the Orr-Buyck Road.
A short time later, deputies received a report of a vehicle fire in a nearby driveway. The vehicle matched the description of the pickup involved in the crash.
When deputies arrived, the pickup was fully engulfed in flames and unoccupied. Johnson was later located and reportedly denied any injuries.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Bois Forte Police, and the Crane Lake, Buyck, and Orr fire departments.
