BEATTY TWP — One person died and three others were injured Tuesday evening following a boat crash near Manbeck Island on Lake Vermilion, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office. The deceased has been identified as Jeremy Brandon Johnson, age 53, of Eveleth.
Emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 6:22 p.m. to the 3600 block of Black Bay Road after receiving reports of a boating accident in which multiple people had been thrown into the water.
Three people were transported from the scene by ambulance. One of those individuals was later airlifted to a hospital in Duluth.
A fourth person involved in the crash was pronounced dead at the scene after life-saving efforts by medical personnel were unsuccessful.
Authorities said the cause of the accident remains under investigation. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
Agencies assisting at the scene included the Cook Ambulance, Tower Ambulance, Virginia Ambulance, Orr Ambulance, Lake Vermilion Fire Brigade, St. Louis County Rescue Squad, and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.
